Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Is FundMyHope a real fundraising platform?
Yes. Campaigns, accounts, and donations are real, and payments are processed through Flutterwave. Every fundraiser's organizer verifies their identity before a withdrawal is released, which is how we keep it trustworthy for donors.
How do I start a fundraiser?
Tap "Start a fundraiser" in the header or menu. You'll need an account (a quick sign-up with email confirmation), then you can set a goal, write your story, and add a photo.
How do I know a fundraiser on here is legitimate?
Read the full story, not just the headline, and check whether the organizer has posted updates. Reviews left by donors and organizers on a campaign's page are also worth reading — genuine campaigns tend to keep talking after the first post.
How does withdrawing money work?
Withdrawals are reviewed by hand, not sent automatically. When you request one, you'll be asked for your legal name and a government ID, which our team checks against the campaign before sending funds. This is slower than an automatic payout, but it's the safeguard that protects donors.
Why do you ask for my ID before a withdrawal?
Because nobody else verifies who's actually receiving the money once it leaves a campaign — that responsibility falls on us. Matching a withdrawal request to a real, named person is the main way we keep fake campaigns from being paid out.
Can I edit my fundraiser after publishing it?
Yes. You can update the story, goal, and photo at any time from your fundraiser's page — this is exactly how you should post progress updates for your donors.
Are donations refundable?
This depends on the state of the underlying payment provider and is handled case by case — reach out through the Contact page if you believe a donation needs to be reversed.
How do reviews work?
Anyone can leave a star rating and a short review from a fundraiser's page. Reviews left across the site also appear on the sitewide Reviews page, alongside a few sample stories we wrote to show what the feature looks like in use.
